A masterpiece
by Mother Nature. Sunset over Bahía El Palmar and the
islands in front of Ixtapa. There are no words... only sensations. |

Time
seems to stand still in Mexico, reminding us of a simpler way
of life. This is still the way people get around in many small
villages. Photo taken on the road that leads to la Barra de Potosí from
Los Achotes. |
The beach fronting
town is called both Playa Municipal and Playa Principal, but it's
actual name is Playa Del Puerto. The Hotel Avila is visible at
the center of the photo. The 2-story white building to the left
used to be our city hall (but has since been torn down) and is
where you'll find the town plaza. |

Here you can see Playa
Madera in the distance. Casa Cuitlateca is to the far right on the
hill & Bungalows Pacíficos is on the extreme left. |
Looking towards La
Ropa Beach you can see the Sotavento and Catalina hotels near the
center of the photo, and the Casa Que Canta Hotel is the large adobe
structure to its left. |

The local Mexican
Navy on parade. We have a small Naval Base here & we're thankful
for their reassuring presence. |
The local Mexican
Army on parade. These guys & gals are stationed in nearby Petatlán,
and they're always there when we need them. Like the Navy, they mainly
perform various community services. |

The lighthouse
at the mouth of Zihuatanejo's Bay. We call it "El Faro" in Spanish.
You can walk here from Las Gatas Beach. The view from here is
spectacular! Just be sure to give a shout to the caretaker when
you walk up there so as not to startle him. And don't forget
your camera! |

Looking east on the
Playa Municipal in front of town. This is part of our local fishing
fleet. The pier is behind me, the basketball court/town plaza is
midway down, & the museum is at the far end of the beach. |

This is the beach called Playa
Varadero at Isla Ixtapa. To the right on this beach
is the restaurant "El Paraíso Escondido", which
I highly recommend! This island is a great place for snorkeling.
To get here take the water-taxi from the pier at Playa Linda.
Trips can also be chartered at the Zihuatanejo pier and Marina
Ixtapa. |

This is what Zihuatanejo
is all about!! This is my pal Chris working up a sweat at Las Gatas
Beach in Zihuatanejo's Bay. To get here either take a water-taxi from
the pier or walk the path along the coast from the end of La Ropa
Beach. |

Here is a photo of the
waterfall in Ixtapa beside the main entrance road just before the
turnoff to Paseo de Los Viveros when coming from Zihuatanejo. It
does not have water year round but usually flows during the latter
part of the rainy season after several heavy rains. |
You
can take horseback tours at La Barra de Potosí (highly recommended).
Ask for info at La Condesa or any other restaurant at La Barra
and they will contact the local tour guide who has the horses. |

There are several
small park areas in both Zihuatanejo & Ixtapa. This one is called
"Plaza del Artista". It connects to the Playa Municpal
from Calle Juan N. Alvarez at the corner of Calle Vicente Guerrero.
|
Doing the "Zihuatanejo
stoop" at Playa La Ropa! A favorite local pastime. Actually they're
collecting chiquiliquis to eat: small crustaceans similar to a shrimp
but with more legs and no tail, a local delicacy. |

Restaurants
in front of the lagoon at Barra de Potosí preserve the old-style
traditions and ambience of a simple way of life enjoyed along the
Mexican coast known as La Costa Grande.

You never know who'll
turn up in Zihuatanejo! Patti, Keith & me
